Where Do You Think You Are? A Collaborative Exercise in Psycho Geography

This workshop will focus on putting characters into locations and observing how the interactions between the two contribute to making a story. Would we have War and Peace without the Russian winter or Paul Bowles’ The Sheltering Sky without the Sahara? Would anyone but a scholar of Roman military history remember Hannibal if his elephants had just strolled across a warm plain rather than crossing the Alps? Character makes fiction but how does place contribute to the making of character and what traces of themselves do characters leave on the places they leave, pass through, arrive at or live in? We will examine these questions through a collaborative exercise in psycho geography. No qualifications needed other than a capacity to have fun with words.
